A Pain-Free Experience: We begin by applying a local anaesthetic to the toe. You will not feel any pain during the procedure.
Gentle Removal: Once you are completely numb, we gently and precisely remove the small, problematic edge of the nail that is growing into the skin.
Preventing Regrowth: We apply a special solution (phenol) to the nail root in that specific corner. This stops only that offending edge from ever growing back, without affecting the rest of your healthy nail.
Dressing & Aftercare: The toe is dressed, and we provide you with a simple take-home aftercare kit and instructions. You can walk out immediately.

No. Your toe is fully numbed with a local anaesthetic before we begin. You will not feel any pain during the procedure at all. We won’t start until we are both 100% sure you are completely numb.
Most patients report minimal discomfort. The feeling is typically a dull ache, which is very different from the sharp, jabbing pain of the ingrown nail (which will be gone!). This is easily managed with over-the-counter pain relief (like paracetamol) and rest for the first evening.
This is a very common worry! We only remove the small, problematic sliver of nail on the edge (about 1-2mm). The vast majority of your nail is left completely untouched and looks perfectly normal. Once healed, the nail will simply look slightly narrower and, most importantly, healthy.
You will be able to walk out immediately, but the anaesthetic will make your toe feel “strange.” For your own safety and comfort, we strongly recommend you arrange for someone to drive you home. You should plan to rest and elevate your foot for the rest of the day.
