What is the best running shoe for me?
This is a very common question posed to Podiatrists daily. For a lot of people, finding that “Cinderella Moment” can be quite a challenge, given the wide range of running shoes available. Running shoe companies, are all competing to provide that “Cinderella Moment”, which can be a different experience for everyone, depending on your foot function and running history.
Once we start to dive into the many different features and types of running shoes, the further we dive in the more confusing the decision on the right shoe gets.
Do you need;
- a maximal cushioning shoe which is soft and bouncy or a more stable/ firm shoe
- an elevated heel or very minimalist shoe where your whole foot is close to the ground
- a shoe with a rocker bottom to aid in forward propulsion, or have limited ankle and toe joint movement
- a wide toe box or high-volume toe box
