Cracked heels

Cracked heels are a very common problem and can range in severity from a cosmetic issue to a painful problem.

Some of the causes of cracked heels are dry air, lack of moisture, improper foot care, an unhealthy diet, aging, prolonged standing on hard floors and wearing the wrong types of shoes.

Corns and calluses

Corns and calluses are hard, thickened areas of skin that form as a consequence of rubbing, friction or pressure on the skin. Corns and calluses form on the feet and can make walking painful. The common callus is usually caused from excessive pressure and force through the feet.

Ingrown toenails

Ingrown toenails are a common condition in which the corner or side of a toenail grows into the soft flesh. The result is pain, redness, swelling and, sometimes, an infection. Ingrown toenails usually affect your big toe. A nail surgery is sometimes required with the aim of partially removing part of the nail permanently.

Warts

Plantar warts are skin infections caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Warts on the soles or toes of the foot can cause pain. The virus is spread from one person to another when the outer layer is broken. Podiatrists can treat warts by debriding, using silver nitrate, salicylic acid, and needling.

Fungal nails

Nail fungus is a common condition that begins as a white or yellow spot under the tip of your toenail. As the fungal infection goes deeper, nail fungus may cause your nail to discolour, thicken and crumble at the edge. Nail fungus are often a cosmetic concern as they can be unslightly and can sometimes cause pain.
